Liebster Award Nomination: Delayed Response

The Liebster Award is an award that exists only on the internet and is given to bloggers by other bloggers. The earliest case of the award goes as far back as 2011. Liebster in German means sweetest, kindest, nicest, dearest, beloved, lovely, kind, pleasant, valued, cute, endearing, and welcome.

Thank you, BRAIN EMBRYOS, for nominating me for this award on December 13, 2018. I apologize for taking so long to respond. I am now beginning to pull myself together after experiencing a crisis and a tragic traumatic event.

What to Do if Nominated for the Liebster Award

Back in 2011 the rules were a simple case of acknowledgement of the nominator and to nominate 5 more. Now eight years on it is a little more involved and will continue to evolve as blogging becomes more accessible. If you have been nominated for The Liebster Award AND YOU CHOOSE TO ACCEPT IT, or you chose to start a blog post about the Liebster award; you should do the following:

  1. Thank the person who nominated you, and put a link to their blog on your blog. Try to include a little promotion for the person who nominated you. They will thank you for it and those who you nominate will also help you out as well.
  2. Answer the 5 creative and unique questions given to you.
  3. Write a small post about what motivates you in life (not just in blogging)
  4. Nominate 2 – 6 blogs that you feel would enjoy blogging about this award
  5. Create 5 creative and unique questions for your nominees
  6. List these rules in your post (You can copy and paste from here or simply link to this post.)
  7. Once you have written and published it, you then have to:
  8. Inform the people/blogs that you nominated that they have been nominated for the Liebster award and provide a link for them to your post

BRAIN EMBRYOS is a very eloquent writer who focuses on thought processes, the development of ideas, understanding, concepts, habits, emotions, and behaviour–ways of being. One of the posts that I find interesting is CURIOSITY EMBRYOS.

What Motivates Me in Life

I am motivated by the belief that the Universe only allows us to live so long as we’re entertaining. And that, when we die, we just get absorbed back into Source. So, being alive is our only opportunity to be individuals. And, it is important to make the most of your time with loved ones while they’re alive; because, this is the only time that you will experience them as individuals.

The Awesome Impact Award Nomination

Thank you, DM for nominating me for the Awesome Impact Award. I was like, “What? OMG! Thank you so much!” I was unaware that this award existed and I am amazed that you nominated me for it; since, I have only been on WordPress for a short time.

The Rules

  • Thank to the person that nominated you and provide a link to that post.
  • Add “The Awesome Impact Award” image to the post.
  • Describe an incident that impacted your life in a really positive way.
  • Nominate other bloggers for this award.

The Incident

The incident that I had that impacted my life in a really positive way was meeting Dave Mustaine of Megadeth for the first time. Let’s go to the beginning. I was in the hospital following what people would call a ‘nervous breakdown’. While in the hospital, I listened to a CD that my son had given me for Christmas. This CD was Countdown to Extinction by Megadeth. The 5th track, Sweating Bullets, was really helpful in getting me back home. The lyrics of that song helped me to feel like someone out there knew what I was going through. I felt that no one could write that unless they had been there.

When I got home, I decided that I wanted to write a letter to Dave Mustaine through him for the impact that his writing had on me. I checked the liner notes of the CD looking for an address to send the letter. What I found was a url to the Megadeth CyberArmy fan club. I typed the link into my browser and read about the fan club. I found out that there was a way to meet the band! I thought, “Wow! I could actually meet him and shake his hand while I expressed my thanks!” All I had to do was join the fan club and recruit enough members to earn a meet and greet pass to meet the band after one of their concerts. I was bound and determined to do just that.

I wanted to earn that pass as quickly as possible. So, I came up with the idea to hold recruiting events at record stores, night clubs, and comic book stores. I came up with themes for each one; such as, a record release party for their Cryptic Writings album, birthday card signing parties for each of the band members’ birthdays, and release parties for their Cryptic Writings of Megadeth comic book.

I called the fan club to get permission to hold these recruiting events. The representative that I talked to was very enthusiastic and offered to mail Megadeth memorabilia to give away as prizes! Oh, my goodness! She also suggested to me that I write up a story about each event and send it to her for inclusion in the CyberArmy newsletter.

My husband made posters for each event; which, we got permission to put in the windows of record stores. I made flyers with the details of the events to leave inside the stores for people to take. I, also, called the local radio station that played Megadeth and told them what I was going to do. The representative there asked me to send him an email with the details and he would have my events announced on air. Goodness sakes!

I called Chaos! Comics, the publisher of the comic book to get permission to have the comic book release party. They offered to send 2 of the people that wrote 2 of the 3 stories in the first book to come from their headquarters in AZ to my event in CA and make it a signing party! Holy cow! And, they brought prizes to give away, too! I was even invited to the San Diego Comic Con to work in the Chaos! Comics booth and give away prizes along with recruiting people in the CyberArmy! I was beside myself!

The events were a huge success! I wrote up a story after every and included the photos my husband at each one. I found out that Dave Mustaine himself was the editor of the newsletter. Nothing got into it unless he approved it. All of my stories were published in Deth Watch.

I quickly earned the meet and greet pass that I had worked so hard for. My husband and I got to meet the band! When Dave walked up to me, I put out my hand and said, “Hi, I’m Carine O’Connell.” He chuckled and said, “I know.” !!! Of course! knew who I was and knew all that I had done to earn the pass; since he was the editor of the newsletter! OMGness! He knew who I was!

This meeting was the beginning of a very unexpected friendship. And, what I learned from all of this is, that if I put my mind to it, I can do almost anything!
